Imagine once a week, or perhaps every other week, starting class with a video clip. Your students come into your room and see on your board a Do Now/Bell Ringer assignment to watch the upcoming video and reflect on it. You would have to teach them how to reflect on something in an age-appropriate manner, but after they had done so a few times, reflecting on a short video clip would become routine.
After they had reflected, you could ask them to share their thoughts with you. Through the ensuing class discussion, you would be able to share with them why you chose the particular video and what you hope they learn from it. What a great opportunity to be a compass and point students toward the truths they need to learn on their way to Mt. Olympus!
